Heavy Viet attacks push South Vietnamese forces toward the border in Laos with at least 110 killed and 205 wounded. Landing Zone Brown becomes the sixth base abandoned since February 8 as U.S. air and helicopter withdrawals accelerate. North Vietnamese shelling continues while Saigon redeploys units toward safer positions.
In Columbus Ohio a two part relief plan for the unemployed and injured workers is proposed. A unemployment compensation bill would raise benefits from 66 to 99 dollars weekly and extend the maximum to 26 weeks and add 13 more weeks during four percent unemployment. A workmen compensation bill would lift maximum benefits from 63 to 98 dollars weekly and provide higher survivor and funeral benefits. The measure adds coverage for nonprofit and small business employees and allows working students to qualify under certain conditions. Senate sessions stall over floor rule details while House passes a separate waste transport and safety glass measure. Also two bills to expand Cleveland State University include a health college and a medical college.
In Fort Benning Georgia a juror in Lt William L Calley Jr's court martial suffered stomach pains and was taken to Martin Army Hospital then released for Day Two of deliberations. Maj Harvey G Brown aged 33 was hospitalized briefly and returned to the panel after 90 minutes.
