Eisenhower to address Berlin crisis on TV tonight

President Eisenhower will speak for a half hour from the White House at 9:30 p.m. EST outlining U S charges that the Soviets seek to eject Allied forces from Berlin and breach postwar four power agreements. He will repeat resolve to stand firm and may present occupation documents. Talks with Prime Minister Macmillan follow Thursday to align Allied stance.

French Communists Hold Ground In Second Round Elections

Returns from France's two round municipal elections show the Communist party maintaining or gaining ground in key towns. In Paris suburbs Reds retook 26 of 28 councils. overall they hold 59 of 150 seats in the capital region. Across the 13 largest cities, Communists won 160 seats, up from 155 in 1953. About 20,000 communities completed voting March 8 under the two round system.

Fires Across Nation Kill 26 Children In Deadly Blazes

A wave of fires across the United States claimed 26 children among more than 30 dead. In Superior Wisconsin a father and five children died in a duplex fire while the mother was away. Other victims included eight children in Cross Hill South Carolina and eight youngsters in a North Philadelphia home. Additional fatalities occurred in West New York New Jersey and Halfway Oregon.

A powerful mid March storm lashed the Midwest with winds over 80 mph and heavy snow in Wisconsin, Iowa, and Nebraska.
