Logan Health Officials Plan Polio Vaccinations for Logan Pupils

Logan and Hocking county school children near one thousand are being prepared for polio vaccination by the city county health department. Dr. H M Boocks says licensing of the Jonas Salk vaccine hinges on field tests. If licensed in April, vaccinations would begin immediately for eligible pupils in the second grade and older with written parental requests. The three stage schedule starts a week apart for first and second doses, then four weeks to the third. First vaccination aligns with pre school immunizations to speed up protection before polio season. No adverse reactions were observed in tests of about a half million children. Parents may have children vaccinated by their family physician once licensed. If license denials suspend plans, vaccinations will be deferred.
