Ohio lawmakers move to place two constitutional measures on the May 2 ballot. Hussein proposes semi autonomous Palestine state in West Bank

King Hussein of Jordan offered to establish a semiautonomous Palestinian state in the occupied West Bank after Israeli withdrawal. Arab governments rejected the plan and Egypt, Syria, Libya, and Iraq warned it could lead to a separate peace with Israel. Palestine guerrilla leaders vowed a government-in-exile in retaliation, calling the proposal a plot to end the commando movement.

Ohio offers help to remove acid water dam risk at Noble County

Natural Resources Director William Nye said state experts will assist Union Carbide in removing a Noble County road embankment impounding over 60 million gallons of highly acidic water. The embankment was ordered removed as a life and property hazard and further water buildup could breach it. unsafe drainage could harm aquatic life with Union Carbide liable for any fish kills.

A Sterling Airways Caravelle with 112 people on board crashed into a rain swept mountainside near Dubai while approaching for landing from Ceylon to Denmark. Rescuers reported no sign of life found.
