Hocking County officials discussed maintenance and costs for more than 300 bridges on Thursday. Commissioner, prosecuting attorney, engineer, and a state auditor representative attended. The engineer outlined aging bridges and funding limits for repairs, emergencies, and bids. He noted use of stockpiled materials and a certified welder, with potential county liability reduced by certification. He also warned of a looming $75,000 auto gas fund impact if a legal action against the commissioners proceeds.
Forrest Moore, Hocking County prosecutor, faced eleven interrogatories in a case against county commissioners over a $75,000 pledge for Mulberry Street and Route 93 bridge work linked to the Route 33 relocation in Logan. Moore’s forthcoming answers aim to show no county treasury funds or bond plan existed to cover the payments in 1966 1967 or 1968, and that the county would have paid only if not for the contract.
