Race for Reason to return next month in Athens

The sixth annual Race for Reason, co sponsored by The Athens Messenger, will be held Saturday April 22 with a Fitness Fest kickoff Friday night. Organizer Bill Hauschild says the event promotes awareness for causes such as Cystic Fibrosis and invites selected reasons to celebrate and promote their cause.

TS Tech in Athens to donate 15 acres of land

TS Tech Ameri cas Inc board approved donating 15 acres to the city of Athens. Fire Chief Rymer had earlier approached the company about selling the land for a regional firefighter training center, with the plant able to use other land if expansion is needed. City officials await a response.

Trump voters face biggest losses under GOP health plan

A Los Angeles Times analysis shows lower income, older, rural voters could lose the most under the American Health Care Act. In about 1,500 counties, a 60-year-old at $30,000 income could lose over $6,000 yearly in subsidies, with 90 percent of those counties backing Trump. States hit include Alaska, Arizona, Nebraska, Tennessee, and Oklahoma, while wealthier younger urban voters could gain.

Independent analysis warns 24 million lose health coverage

The Congressional Budget Office estimates that by 2026 about 24 million Americans would lose health coverage under the House GOP plan to replace the ACA. The CBO also projects a deficit cut of 337 billion dollars over the next decade, challenging GOP assurances that Obamacare repeal would not harm anyone.
