Man Found Drunk After Rainstorm Near Athens
John F. Sullivan of Pittsburg was found in a dilapidated condition by police. He recalled little, claimed memory loss since a Sunday hospital visit, and was restored his hat and coat after paying livery. Two other arrests in town included John Allbraugh fined for intoxication and Pearl Burchield fined for carrying concealed weapons and peeping, after a lecture from the mayor.

Athens county man lands in Spanish War Claims Commission
James Perry Wood of Athens county has been appointed to the commission to adjust Spanish war claims with a salary of 35000 a year plus expenses. The appointment follows support from Senator Hanna and General Grosvenor, with Wood to work in Washington and possibly travel to Cuba and Porto Rico. The body mirrors the Alabama claims commission and will handle U S claims for damages from the war. Man Bound Over On False Pretenses Charge In Small Cash Suit

Lantern Theft on K M Railway Sparks Arrest
W McMullen, a former extra brakeman on the K M line between Athens and Ganley Bridge, is accused of stealing a conductor's lantern from W W Brown and selling it for 150 dollars to Hig Kale of the B O S W. Brown later identified the lantern. Kale returned the money and the lantern was recovered. McMullen had room and board at the Palmer House and left town without settling his bill.
