In Manila SEATO foreign ministers faced demands for more economic aid to counter Communist offers. Dulles announced two million dollars to train SEATO technicians and Australia offered two million dollars for Asia members. France and the Philippines proposed more aid, but the U.S. held back on expansion.
Eight amateur radio operators plan an eight day marathon from Socorro Island 400 miles off Mexico to contact 10 000 operators worldwide. The Cincinnati group includes Nar vel Reece Frank Koval and Jacob Schott with others from New York Michigan Florida Kentucky and California. They will be on air from March 19 to 26 brief calls with only call letters names and addresses.
Monday autopsy found a brain tumor caused the death of Frank McLain Knight, 30, son of John W. Knight editor and publisher of Knight Newspapers, Inc. Knight was the son of the publisher and heading to a family-owned paper.

Surgeons at St Luke's Hospital began a high risk operation on 11 year old Susan Kurtz of Onsted Michigan. The five hour procedure aims to graft arteries from her lungs to her heart and correct defects. Donor blood from 27 residents and Case Tech students supported the operation.
Seven-year-old Audrey Hocking, dying of cancer at Rhode Island Hospital, asked for a piece of watermelon. A wide broadcast appeal followed as newspapers, radio, and TV stations reported the request and wholesale fruit houses in Boston and New York were searched without success. Audrey has been hospitalized three weeks and doctors say she has only a short time left.
Guards planned to inspect 300 riotous prisoners at Brushy Mountain State Prison after demonstrations ended by tear gas. Warden Frank Llewellyn said the riot lasted hours and guards were kept out for fear of hostage-taking. The inmates burned paper, damaged plumbing and lights, pounded walls, and yelled from cells. About the same time 11 convicts escaped Fort Pillow Prison Farm, scaled a 10 foot wall, and fled through muddy lowlands. three were recaptured.
Two buses carrying about 100 pupils from Rose and Highland elementary schools collided in Barberton. One girl was admitted to Barberton Citizens Hospital. eight other children were treated and released. Driver James Barlow was arrested for failure to have his bus under control.
Larry Williams Jenkins, 13, called police at 11 30 p m from a locked neighborhood theater after waking in the rest room to find all doors secured. He said he had fallen asleep and was unable to leave until theater personnel unlocked the doors.
Mrs Dwight D Eisenhower returns from Denver to Washington after a two day visit to see her ailing mother Mrs Elivera Doud aged 79 in Denver Colorado.
AFL-CIO president George Meany urged swift tax cuts and expanded jobless benefits to curb unemployment. He pressed Congress to act and pledged more funding for defense and public works including schools, roads, hospitals, and airports. The remarks were prepared for a 1000-member AFL-CIO gathering.
Senate rackets investigators questioned Detroit unionist John Gunaca about the beating of Kohler Co worker William Bersch Sr who died months later. Gunaca denies involvement and has been charged with assault but not tried. The probe ties to a Kohler strike and a 1954 gas station fight.
State Police arrested James D. Nichols and Robert E. Shaver after finding a lipstick sign reading Watch Out Radar along a New York highway. The sign violated Public Works Department permits for highway signs. Nichols, 20, and Shaver, 17, were caught red handed.
Mrs Edna Yoho will be sworn in as sheriff of Harrison County following the death of her husband Sheriff Odis K Yoho who was killed in a traffic accident Saturday. She will serve until a successor is elected in November for the remaining two years of his term. As jail matron she will focus on the office while Chief Deputy Albert Lewis handles law enforcement duties.
Victor Cohen, former Cleveland Transit Board member, is believed to be first in line for appointment to the Common Pleas Court bench left vacant by the recent death of Judge Edward Blythin, the Cleveland Plain Dealer said today.
The U S Chamber of Commerce estimates Ohio would contribute 1 440 000 more than it would receive under the administration proposed school aid program. The figure derives from comparing projected school aid allotments with the federal tax Ohio would pay to fund the program.
