Ohio River pollution worries Ohio University expert warns of acidity in Hocking Basin
Geology Prof. Maid A. Ahmad says unreclaimed strip mine land in Athens Hocking Perry counties fuels acid drainage in the Hocking River Basin. He cites sulfate absorption rising from 300 to 500 tons daily 1955–1965 and 1000 tons daily in 1970, proposes vegetation-based reclamation and potential tourism boosts if water improves.
