Athens council balks at funding law library from fines
Athens city officials pressed to justify a $9000 annual contribution to the county law library fund while other municipalities pay nothing. City Solicitor Rowland warned the library is a public institution funded by fines and fees, open to all citizens, with funds redistributed after each cycle. The issue, tied to state law, prompted discussions of possible remedies and a meeting with the bar association. Meanwhile, charges connected to the Chauncey cruiser theft and armed robbery were arraigned, with Oiler pleading guilty to armed robbery and facing bond. the case referenced as part of the council’s broader financial concerns.
