Washington awaited Moscow's reply to the demand that Soviet troops leave Iran immediately. Officials noted the reply could shape whether American Soviet relations improve or worsen. Nikolai V. Novikov, chargé d affaires, visited Secretary Byrnes as diplomats sought clarity on Moscow's position.

In Cleveland on Scranton Road an ambulance parked on the roadside carried out a birth as Mrs Esther Lipovsky aged 20 delivered a four pound son inside the vehicle while traffic honked outside and noise failed to reach the occupants.
Charles O Connell of St Paul Minnesota was stopped near Niles by Michigan officers after his wife vanished from the car while they crossed the state. She woke at a Battle Creek station and bought food, then rejoined him during the return trip with no harm.
Five Columbus clergymen charge the Federal Council of Churches of Christ in America with unAmerican views and call the atomic bombing report morally indefensible. They accuse FC leaders of disrespect to service members and praise for pacifist and radical centers such as Yale Divinity School Union Theological Seminary and Chicago Theological Seminary.
Timken steelworkers prepared to contest a court injunction limiting pickets to seven at each of five gates of the Timken Roller Bearing Co plant in Columbus. The injunction follows a successful 50-man back-to-work movement last Wednesday. the plant employs 4,600 workers. A Dublin UPI bulletin also reports no overnight change in the condition of Cardinal Glennon in St. Louis.
The NLRB ruled that Wagner act rights extend to supervisory employees who wish to join a union and bargain with employers. The decision impacts coal mine foremen and could trigger a lengthy confrontation with John L. Lewis's United Mine Workers as negotiations approach next week.

Turner added Warren business leaders complained some students acted as volunteer OPA price checkers.
Leroy S. Matheny, 97, a longtime Hocking Valley railroader who helped lay the Athens Beaumont track, died today in Nelsonville. He was born in Beaumont in 1849 and is survived by his wife Lucretia, a son William, 15 great grandchildren, seven grandchildren, and seven great great grandchildren. Services set for 2:30 Sunday at Pilgrim Holiness Church with burial in Greenstown Cemetery. Friends may call at Stout Funeral Home.
Edwin W. Pauley told the Senate Naval Committee that he never suggested California oil men would fund the Democratic Party if Ickes dropped the Tidelands suit. He defended his record and said his determination to win confirmation as Undersecretary of the Navy is stronger than ever.
Two large CIO United Rubber Workers locals delayed membership meetings on ratifying a Washington wage and hours pact with Firestone Goodyear Goodrich and U S Rubber. Clarence Wheeler of the Goodrich Local said action is deferred to a March 17 special meeting as talks on wage equities begin. The pact offers 18 12 cents hourly raise, overtime rates, and retroactivity to November 1.
Army enlistments in the Cleveland 70 County district totaled 1852 for February, surpassing the monthly quota. District commander Lt. Col. Frank A. McCulloch reported strong results with Ashtabula leading at 4131 percent of its quota and Canton at 125.3 percent.
Thousands in Ohio have exhausted their 22 week unemployment benefits. Officials forecast the peak rate of exhaustions will occur later this month and next, based on postwar filing totals of 165 000 in September and October.
