Bomb Raid Increase Reported In Laos

U S warplanes attacked two more antiaircraft batteries in North Vietnam and B52 bombers stepped up raids in Laos. It marked the fifth straight day of strikes in North Vietnam with 80 total for the year. Navy fighters escorted strikes on antiaircraft guns in the Ho Tinh region north of the DMZ. results not yet known and no American losses reported. North Vietnam accused the raids of hitting populated areas and causing casualties.

Federal and New York County grand juries plan joint action this week in the Clifford Irving case over his Hughes biography hoax. The Associated Press reports Ohio recorded its best highway safety weekend in seven years with only four fatalities. This marks four fewer deaths than last year's low count and one fewer than the previous seven year low in 1970.

Gene Carroll a Cleveland show business veteran who hosted WEWS long running local variety show since April 1948 died in Boca Raton Florida Community Hospital at age 74 after a heart attack. He had taped shows through May 11 and may have telecast options pending station decision.

Granville Ohio AP reports memorial service for Ethel Outland 84 believed first woman to teach a journalism course in an American college. Outland taught at Coe College Cedar Rapids Iowa from 1913 to 1949, retired in 1949, and moved to Granville.

Toll Reaches 103 In W. Va. Flood

National Guardsmen continue a Buffalo Creek Hollow search for flood victims after the Feb 26 disaster. The toll stands at 103 with 70 percent of wreckage checked and more than 90 identified in a temporary morgue. Federal aid has processed 700 housing applications as families move into trailer sites.

Corps says completed R D Bailey dam would not avert Buffalo Creek flood

The Army Corps of Engineers argued that finishing the 106 million R D Bailey dam on the Guyandotte River would not have prevented the February Buffalo Creek disaster which killed over 100 people. It would have kept main roads open and reduced property damage by about 1.4 million, the spokesman said.
