King Paul of Greece died today after a long illness. Crown Prince Constantine, 23, succeeds him as king after Paul served as regent since February. Medical reports through March detailed a series of clots and deteriorating condition despite initial surgical success and brief signs of improvement.
Ruby 52 watched a live TV film of the Oswald shooting in Dallas court today. He leaned forward, showed no emotion, and kept his eyes on the screen as the eight men and four women jury would later view the footage. He is charged with murder with malice and a death verdict is sought by the district attorney. The defense contends Ruby was temporarily insane at the time of the shooting.
Former Vice President Richard M. Nixon said he would accept the Republican nomination for vice president if the party asked. He stressed he is not seeking the presidential or vice presidential nod, but supports upgrading the vice presidency.
The 504 foot tanker Bunker Hill exploded and sank 15 miles from Anacortes early today. Coast Guard rescued 26 survivors, 18 sailors unaccounted for from the 44 man crew. Survivors were taken to hospitals on the mainland and at Whidbey Island Naval Air Station.
Army doctors operated on Gen. Douglas MacArthur and removed his gall bladder and gall stones from the common bile duct. They found no cancer and described his post operative condition as satisfactory.

Edison Baker notes further moves are planned. In Reading a local woman received a $100 fine and probation to her 100th birthday for unlawfully selling liquor to supplement relief checks.
About 10,000 pupils affected as the Cincinnati Archdiocese frees first grade from parochial classrooms due to rising costs and overcrowding. Roughly 6,000 in Cincinnati and Hamilton County plus 1,500 in Dayton and 2,500 in other communities will enter public schools. Officials foresee job strains for teachers and plan absorption strategies. Public schools expect a need for more teachers to handle the influx.
In Concord voters face a local option on selling sweepstakes tickets the state only lottery. Gov. John W. King urges a strong yes. Tickets at three race tracks and liquor stores in approving towns may cost 3 dollars.

In Vancouver Washington a batsman hit a ball during spring baseball practice at Clark College that lofted out of the lot and struck the campus fire alarm box drawing five fire trucks to the scene.
An uncontested Mexican divorce granted Elizabeth Taylor freedom from Eddie Fisher in Puerto Vallarta clears the path for a remarriage to Richard Burton. Judge Arcadio Estrada ruled the decree allowed both to remarry and custody of Liza Todd was awarded to Taylor.
U S Ambassador Charles E Bohlen is being brought home from Paris Saturday for consultations. Officials say the veteran diplomat likely cannot fully explain what has gone wrong with American Franco relations.
Secretary General U Thant has failed to recruit a generally acceptable contingent for the Cyprus peace force after two weeks of talks. Six countries show willingness but none pledge firm troops. Violence continues with a Greek Cypriot shepherd killed near Kyrenia and clashes as British troops restrain Turkish Cypriots at Karmi. A bomb hits the Turkish Cypriot legislature in Nicosia.
Secretary of Defense Robert S. McNamara travels to Saigon for a fourth fact finding mission on Vietnam. Accompanied by General Maxwell D. Taylor, he will stop in Hawaii en route and warns of grave conditions and increased North Vietnamese Viet Cong support.
A 22 year old male babysitter is jailed on suspicion after an 18 month old boy Curtis Jenkins was hospitalized in critical condition following brain surgery. Police say the sitter spun the child in play when he slipped and hit his head repeatedly. Relatives say the child slipped head first to the floor after being refused a chair.
The next to last draft of oil drilling regulations has been reviewed by state officials and industry representatives. J. Lester Zimmerman said filings with the secretary of state may occur Tuesday, with rules likely to take effect 60 days later unless Gov Rhodes proclaims an emergency to make them immediate.
Federal Mediator George H Bell recessed the negotiations between Bridgewater Machine and the United Auto Workers after a two day session. He urged both sides to study remaining issues and the union set a Saturday 1 pm meeting to report on progress to members.
