In Trenton Michigan an 18 year old mother gave birth on a busy highway as two police officers from the nearby station stopped traffic and helped deliver a 6 pound 6 ounce baby. Both mother and infant were reported in good condition at Seaway Hospital.
The New York Times reports an extortion ring has victimized eminent educators including at least two deans from Eastern universities, prominent theatrical figures, and armed services officers. The organization allegedly operated nationwide for nearly a decade.
About 1350 GE Evendale workers resume duties after a Wednesday night vote by Local 912 Machinists to end a one day strike. The margin was described as substantial by a union spokesman following a two hour meeting.
Secretary of the Interior Stewart L. Udall said some Johnson administration conservation goals may have to await the outcome of the Vietnam conflict. The bodies of Elliott M. Lee Jr. and Charles A. Bassett II arrived in Washington for burial at Arlington National Cemetery. Lee, 38, a civilian, and Bassett, 34, an Air Force major, were killed when their T38 jet crashed into a McDonnell Aircraft plant in St. Louis. They were slated for the Gemini 9 mission next May.
