Annual report shows 616 patients at Athens Asylum
Superintendent Richardson’s late annual report to the Athens Asylum board notes 616 patients under treatment at year end, including 281 males and 335 females. Fifty-five deaths occurred, with about one third from advanced fatal diseases. The report supports the open door system, outdoor labor for able-bodied males, and year-round occupations to prevent enervation. It also lists broader welfare suggestions and local notices.
