President Johnson informed Congress of a new agreement extending U S atomic information sharing to NATO and its member nations. The pact supersedes a prior arrangement and supports use of nuclear delivered arms under bilateral NATO procedures and 1957 stockpiles.
Gov. William Scranton of Pennsylvania and Sen. Barry Goldwater square off for Illinois delegates ahead of the July 13 San Francisco convention with Harold Stassen also in the mix. An AP poll shows 693 delegates for Goldwater and 138 for Scranton, with 39 of Illinois’s 58 pledged to Goldwater. Scranton challenges Goldwater to a face to face debate, which Goldwater rejects.
Fidel Castro's sister Juanita Castro Ruz defected in Mexico City accusing the Castro regime of betraying the revolution and selling out to the Soviet Union. She read a six page denunciation stating 75,000 political prisoners exist and Cuba is an island prison.
Two men died in a head on collision just south of Logan on Route 33 near the Good year plant. Carl Eberts 49 of Logan Route 4 and James Tolliver 53 of Columbus died at the scene from injuries including a broken neck and crushed head. Police and Sheriff investigated, with witnesses detailing Eberts crossing left of center and Tolliver veering to avoid impact.
A brief clash occurred Tuesday morning as Bridgwater supervisors drove through UAW picket lines at the Mill Street entrance.
