County to receive large state aid for schools
Athens County School superintendent Kenneth C. Ray said the county will get about 105 000 to cover debts in 18 districts, with Nelsonville Glouster and Chauncey included bringing total near 175 000. A federal gift of 12 000 will be shared among the 18 districts to offset delinquent taxes. Athens City not in the state aid system may vote a three mill levy next November to operate schools, though total revenue will still fall about 40 000 under the new 10 mill cap.
