Still Time For Gardens Says Athens Agent

Weather and soil conditions for growing garden crops are ideal, stated Ross Wright, Athens County agricultural agent. Rains delayed planting but there is time to plant and harvest sweet corn, green beans, beets, carrots, cucumbers, peppers, New Zealand spinach, and vine crops. He notes a fall garden is feasible with peas, spinach, green beans, mustard, endive, and turnips to augment home supplies and aid overseas needs. Normal rainfall supports good harvests, and without additional crops the supply will exhaust. gardeners should use rich garden spots.
