Public Hearings Probe Chester Area Telephone Rates
More than 100 Chester area residents testified at a Meigs County hearing on proposed telephone service. The Citizens Telephone Co of Coolville and The General Telephone Co of Ohio seek to expand to Chester and surrounding rural areas with different rate plans and toll arrangements. Local residents were shown two service scenarios, with the Coolville plan favoring toll-free ties to nearby towns and the General plan offering broader toll services and local dial infrastructure within 12 months. An unofficial tally suggested 54 backing Coolville and 62 backing General.
