Congress extends selective service draft amid postwar pressure
Congress has passed a bill extending the selective service act into the postwar period amid political pressure. Analysts note the measure preserves the president’s authority to seize resources and mobilize troops if needed, with an extended time frame likely beyond March 1947 and possible further modifications. The move signals continued readiness to provide troops even as global peace negotiations unfold.
