At Lansing Kansas 278 of 328 mutinous prisoners fought guards and other inmates in a 720 foot coal mine shaft. Hunger and fear drove clashes as inmates overpowered guards, barricaded others, and surged toward the surface, with seven men hospitalized and none seriously hurt.
Richard Grace’s attempt to fly from Hawai i to California was delayed by a cracked propeller discovered during preflight. Mechanics searched nearby fields for a substitute but failed. Grace expected a new propeller from Oakland to be flown in on the President Cleveland sailing from San Francisco. Commander Combe of Pearl Harbor aid station said the propeller broke en route to Honolulu on the freighter Manucat which arrived yesterday.
