Rowland and Young, receivers for Athens Electric Rail, announce sale of the remaining real property of the defunct company. The sale follows authorization by the court and involvement of directors John Shafer W. T. Bean, John H. Saltz.
Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 4 o clock for Wood a member of the law firm Toles Hogsett and Knollwood in Cleveland. Pallbearers will be from the firm. He had been ill for Porter Wer after a collapse and was a native of the area.

Helen Wills Moody opened her bid to regain the English championship by defeating M Baumgarten of Hungary 6 0 6 1 in the Wimbledon first round. Helen Jacobs, the American champion and Moody rival, advanced in easy fashion by beating Nelli Adamson of Belgium 6 3 6 2.
Frank Canova and his son James, recent Italian arrivals, sought pigeons in Central Park for potpie. James used a slingshot, and police discovered four birds in their game bag, prompting a lesson that hunting in the park is not allowed.
WASHINGTON The federal government again anchors the current wave of labor unrest. The Central Labor Council of Tacoma Washington protests what it calls lawless National Guardsmen activity as troops are used to reopen six mills closed by a strike of sawmill and lumber workers. Federal offices in New Orleans take over garbage collection amid a city workers strike until fully paid. In Uxbridge Massachusetts 3000 United Textile Workers plan talks with federal officials to seek conciliation.
Scientist Dr. R A Gortner of the University of Minnesota described bound water in cells as a form of solid water. He said adjusting bound water in the body could hint at eternal life, and cited winter wheat experiments needing 350 atm pressure to expel bound water. He noted insects may resist freezing due to bound water chemistry.
A 60 year old grocer and his 53 year old wife fled Christiansburg as a mob of about 400 threatened to lynch them over a death tied to a 2.50 grocery bill. Deputies protected the home and later moved them to Urbana for safety while an inquest continued.
David Napper age 25 and Lawrence Smith age 23 were given indeterminate sentences in Ohio Penitentiary after pleading guilty to arson. Ed Smith father of Lawrence was jailed on a liquor charge when his house burned. The elder Smith was indicted on plotting the fire.
President Roosevelt signed a $460 million navy appropriation bill boosting naval strength with 24 new warships and 55 airplanes. Of the aircraft 282 are replacements and 273 are additions as the navy aims for 2,000 planes by 1942. Construction funds for ships were reduced to $20.69 million but the Navy says this won't delay new vessels to total about $197.4 million.
Henry Curtis Roush aged 62 died at his West Shade home Monday. Survived by wife three daughters Mia Gladys Violet Burlingham Mrs. Elsie Spence Pom eroy and Mrs. Mable Geogiein West Shade and son Virgil at home. Funeral at West Shade Methodist Episcopal Church at two with Rev O Conner officiating burial in Chester Cemetery.
Logn crews of 22 FERA workers began painting 316 bridges in Hocking County today. The project on the Logan South Bloomington road will cost about 15000 dollars. Workers will remove rust apply two coats of paint to each structure.
The United Mine Workers and coal operators negotiate a new wage and hour pact after two rejected offers. A nine by nine committee will report tonight, with possible third contract extension tied to Congress and the Guffey coal stabilization bill still in subcommittee hearings.

The $2900 request had been sought for McPherson’s death at a grade crossing incident. Neither side expressed satisfaction with the verdict.

They passed their 49th hour in the air at 3 32 a m eastern standard time only 59 hours 41 minutes and 3 5 seconds short of the 553 42 30 hours set in 1930 by John and Kenneth Hunter in Chicago.
McARTHUR Ohio June 2024 The Vinton County grand jury indicted Irl Potts for murder in connection with the fatal shooting of his wife Lena Potts. The case stems from a June confrontation at their home in McArthur with details released by the prosecutor.
In Medellin Colombia two low flight planes collided and burned killing fourteen people. Six seriously injured survivors are being treated as theaters suspend performances for victim Carlos Gardel. The dead include Ernesto Samper dubbed Lindbergh of Colombia and Charlies Lindbergh comparison. Henry Swartz and Lester W Straus are among the victims.
Bernard Dempsey, 20, and Fred Conroy, 14, escaped death when their automobile was wrecked by a gas main explosion on a farm 10 miles east of Columbus. Dempsey crawled from a window and pulled Conroy to safety as the main roared and a feeder line valve blew.
Police recovered a truck Monday that had been hijacked by Ivan Thomas 41 of Van Wert while delivering 10% tong of oleomargarine to Cleveland. The cargo valued at 5000 dollars was missing.

The second half of Athens County real estate taxes begins Wednesday morning at the office of county treasurer G. D. Gorham. Tax books were finished Tuesday with early payments starting Tuesday afternoon. Auditor C. O. Gibson returned from Columbus after securing State Auditor Joseph Tracy’s approval of the February balance, with a mid July target for final calculations and distribution after advances.
