May 1960 Athens County auto titles show modest rise
May report from Clerk of Courts Phyllis Cross notes 161 new car titles processed, up from 156 in April and 148 in May 1960. Used car totals dropped to 659 from 745 in April and 668 in May 1960, with fees at 1627. County retains 1228.50 while the state collects 398.50. The 1043 titles also included seven new trucks, 89 used trucks, 68 station wagons, and other vehicle types such as motorcycles and a sem-trailer.

Athens County Dairy Cattle Test Results Show Gains
May results from the Dairy Herd Improvement Association show Athens County herds averaging 981 pounds of milk and 39.2 pounds of butterfat, up from April by 140 pounds of milk and 5.6 pounds fat. Elmer Finstrawld on Athens Route 4 had the top individual milk yield at 2290 pounds, while Dick Hayes of Guysville owned the top butterfat cow at 117 pounds. Four cows surpassed one ton in milk among 378 cows tested across 17 herds.
