Town Officials Attend Pollution Bill Hearing
Pomeroy and Middleport officials traveled to Columbus to testify at an Ohio Senate Conservation Committee hearing on House Bill Eight. The measure would empower the Water Pollution Control Board to issue permits for septic and sewage facilities when approved by local health boards and shift burden of proof of pollution to the board before forcing a subdivision to build treatment plants. The committee reported the bill favorably and it will go to the Rules Committee for floor scheduling. Mayors Kenneth McElhinney and Charles Legar and others attended, with Rep. George Meinhart as co sponsor.
