E Palmer Hoyt arrives in Washington to lead the domestic branch of the OWI and vows to publish straight information rather than propaganda. The first contingent of 37 Army Specialized Training Program men arrived at Ohio University in Athens from the STAR unit at the University of Wyoming. They are quartered in the Men's Dormitory and assigned to Company A. Classes begin July 12 with medical checks and orientation to cadet regulations.
A fireworks explosion on a Railway Express Co. car of an Erie Railroad train in Ashland killed two men and injured five others.
