About 70,000 Greek troops launched a major assault into the Grammos Mountains near the Albanian border. Six divisions with air and artillery support aimed to crush Markos Vafiades' guerrillas, believed to shelter in the rugged Grammos region with roughly 7,000 rebels and key supply bases.

Police hunt Kenneth Harter of Kirkersville after he used a gun to force his way out of the Franklin County juvenile center. He abducted Emma Founds at the door and threatened to shoot if she opened the door or signaled for help before escaping down an alley. Officers later searched for weapons.
