Death of Meigs Colonel Miller Fate Officially Recorded
POMEROY The faint bone fragments of Lt Col Albert Miller were thought dead as of Oct 24 1944 but a War Department notice released yesterday raised hope he might still be alive. His family in Gallipolis and Meigs County learned of his death while the ship carrying POWs from Corregidor was sunk off the Eastern Asiatic shore. Only four of 1773 prisoners survived shore rescue. Colonel Miller’s death notice follows years of silence after his capture in 1942. He left a widow Helen Bush Miller and daughter Ann, plus his mother Ella Miller and sisters Marcia Hobstetter and Hazel Groff.
