Sheriff deputy sues over defamation in Athens County
Former Athens County sheriff’s deputy Shannon Sheridan filed a defamation suit in Athens County Common Pleas Court against individuals who provided information leading to his dismissal. The suit cites Trudie Sayre’s statements to law enforcement alleging Sheridan made sexually suggestive remarks and inappropriately touched and looked at her as part of his 18 alleged violations and last chance agreement. Sheridan appeals his dismissal to the State Personnel Board of Review.

Sheridan sues Sayres Hart for defamation seeking damages
On Monday Sheridan filed a defamation suit against Trudie and Jerry Sayre of Baker Road and Charles Brian Hart of Vore Ridge Road. He seeks more than 25 000 in compensatory damages plus punitive damages and a court order requiring retractions in local media. Sheridan’s attorney warned in April of further action if retractions were not made. Smith’s attorney called the strategy unprofessional and an attempt to intimidate witnesses. The Sayres and Hart are potential witnesses for Smith in a State Personnel matter.

Defense seeks under eleven year term for stabbings
Frederick Craig Jr. 53, of New Lexington, pleaded guilty to attempted murder and multiple felonious assault, aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary, tampering with evidence, and domestic violence in Athens County. He stabbed ex-wife Julie Nott at least three times, hid the knife in dog food, and tried to take her ring and money. Sentencing set for Monday. prosecutors note potential maximums up to 74.5 years, though merging counts could reduce to about 14 years.
