Albany land buyers balk at lake project offers
Ten landowners oppose the conservancy district’s offers for parcels within the proposed Albany water lake area. At a Monday meeting, J Floyd Williams read ten letters detailing demands for higher land prices and damages, with some owners seeking to minimize land taken. The district, backed by federal and state funds, faces a widening gap between appraisals and owner demands as it pursues 763.7 acres for about 182000 dollars while owners counter with 681.3 acres valued around 423190 dollars.

About 20 property owners met with a three man GAO team from Cincinnati in Athens to press for higher compensation and fairer appraisals for South Green Urban Renewal. The group, sparked by a April meeting with Rep. Clarence E. Miller, argued neighboring properties set different values. GAO officials will stay about three days. City council says landowners must accept the offered price or pursue court action under federal rules.

The Tuppers Plains Chester water district signs a contract with Seico Associates Columbus Ind to prepare plans for a 2 790 000 project. A 1 6 federal grant funds part of the eastern Meigs County and western Athens County line water project. Bids may open in October for the plan and later for test wells to measure potential yield. Two men begin easement studies and contact property owners for tentative storage tank sites. A June 26 meeting is set at 7 p m at Delmar Baum Lumber Co.
