In Wilkes-Barre Pennsylvania on June 20 police linked a series of extortion attempts to railroad telegrapher J Clarence Thonan aged 52 after his hands showed black stains from silver nitrate used on two twenty dollar bills. A $15,000 demand connected to Harry Magee led to a plane drop over Hunts Mountain and a missing package later traced to Thonan by stained money found in a bank and in a gasoline purchase.
Ohio State Auditor report accuses Kinney, mayor of Newton village, Hamilton County, of a 4000 plus shortfall in official accounts. He allegedly owes the state 4101.48 and the county 692.60 in unturned fines, offset by 784.77 in favor of Newton for deposit excesses.
In Montreal on June 20 the discovery of 12 bodies and the death of two more in hospitals raised the total death toll from the Cymbectine explosion to 24. Three people are reported missing and 38 others injured.

Bruner a 42 year old escaped convict from Minot North Dakota was about to be released after his ex wife withdrew a non support charge Sheriff Tom Pask relayed the fugitive status to authorities Bruner who escaped in 1916 after a year of a five year sentence for train robbery had been arrested in Toledo recently and held as a fugitive until the turnabout.
Amelia Earhart arrived in Riverside to a festive welcome with roses from Mayor June and a cheering crowd as crowds lined the streets. She rode in an open car past confetti laden towers to City Hall where Mayor Walker greeted her before a private dinner and plans to fly to Workington for an aeronautic medal ceremony.
At the 48th AIEE convention in Cleveland Dr Charles Edward Skinner urged rigorous investigation and government scrutiny of foreign construction projects funded by American capital. He blamed rising costs and unsound government programs and called for data driven engineering methods to save taxpayers and industry.
