Point Pleasant Floodwall Work Resumes After Strike End
Floodwall construction in Point Pleasant was set to resume weather permitting after AFL operators drivers and laborers ended strikes. About 800 Philip Sporn plant workers had returned to their jobs, pending final settlement. A blanket contract with Huntington Building and Construction Trades Council and the General Contractors Association raised hourly pay for operating engineers by 12 percent and laborers and Teamsters Local 505 by five cents. A man questioned in the beating death of 18 year old Alma Montag agreed to a voluntary lie detector test. George Doty of Bellaire, a taxi driver, denies charges though unnamed.
