The Scioto River flood spread over southern Ohio farmland, with Ross County farmers estimating corn losses at 500000 dollars. Week's Rain Sets Record Pettest Seven Days in Ohio

The Weather Bureau reports a wet week in Ohio with an average rainfall around 3.40 inches. Heaviest falls occurred in Madison and Union counties with 3.51 and 5.42 inches at Sedalia and Marysville, while Akron saw the least with 1.28 inches. The prolonged rainfall harmed crops and caused flooding on the Scioto River and other streams, beating down wheat and delaying late planting of soybeans and corn.

Security Tax Boost Studied By Committee

The House Ways and Means Committee began drafting a bill calling for a 50 percent rise in social security taxes for employers and employees. The panel also voted to extend old age and survivors insurance to all World War I veterans' families for three years at no cost to veterans and to broaden coverage to about 20 million more workers.
