Amendments Trim Ohio Relief Bill Pay in Big Counties

The Ohio House passed a relief bill after three amendments by Rep. H T Phillips. The changes cap relief director salaries at 150 monthly for counties under 100000 and adjust increments for larger counties. The bill also limits state control over director appointments and revises monthly share distributions for Athens County. Athens faced 636 relief cases in April 1936, with costs rising after mine work slowed. The measure would cut monthly aid to families to about 10, sparking concerns over living standards. Further revisions are expected before Senate action.
