W. W. Ankenbrand of Charleston Illinois was elected to succeed A F Hixson as superintendent of the Athens Public Schools Tuesday night. Ankenbrand, 33, has been in Charleston most recently as a school leader after earlier posts in Ohio and at Eastern Illinois State Teachers College. He holds Illinois and Ohio supervisory certificates and is advancing toward a PhD at New York University. He previously helped rebuild Charleston High after a fire and led a district deficit elimination and accreditation improvements. He was re elected in Charleston before choosing Athens assignment.
