Two Utility Projects Are Given Okay
Athens County commissioners approved two utility projects along county roads. Ohio Fuel Gas Co. may lay a three inch gas main under County Road 48 in Rome Two. General Telephone Co. may bury a cable along County Road 10 from County Road 19 to 81 in Athens Two. Commissioners also approved Mrs. Marjorie Mitchell’s request to attend the Ohio State Clerks of Courts Association convention in Painesville Wednesday through Friday.

Cloverdale woman charged with manslaughter in fatal motorcycle crash
Ruth Etter, 42, was charged with second degree homicide by motor vehicle after a Columbus Road crash that killed 23 year old Donald J. Malcomb of Middletown. Etter pleaded innocent in Athens County Municipal Court and posted a 322 bond. Malcomb, a Ohio University student, died from a basal skull fracture. The accident occurred around 1 p.m. near Terrace Drive after Etter pulled into traffic. Malcomb was riding a motorcycle at about 45 mph and was thrown 21 feet beyond the left rear of the truck. Burial for Malcomb is planned in Middletown with Jagers and Sons Funeral Home handling arrangements.
