Columbus AP The governor signed the 97 million dollar two year budget after vetoing about 9 million in items. He cut large sums from education and welfare, including Ohio State University and several colleges, and trimmed state agencies such as Public Works, Bureau of Motor Vehicles, and Health. A 750 thousand dollar loan repayment for the State Office Building remains unpaid.
The State Highway Auditing Department estimated 1935 receipts at 11,625,000 from five revenue sources for the bureau of maintenance. About 9,500,000 would be available for highway maintenance and repair. Expected 1935 revenues: gasoline tax 6,311,250, licenses and fees 5,000,000, carrier fees 250,000, patrol fines 50,000, and sales 13,750.
The 69th annual Grand Army of the Republic encampment began in Columbus with first business sessions and a parade planned for Wednesday. Allied patriotic societies greeted the 44 veterans who honored the Confederate cemetery and attended a reception at the governor's mansion. The Ohio G A R roster stood at 850 living members, blue contingents anticipating another dozen arrivals.
