Athens County faces 28 days without significant rain as crops halt and pastures dry. Rain since May 20 has been minimal, endangering peach and apple crops, alfalfa second cutting, and straw berry yields while livestock may need extra feed. Local water hauling reports rise as drought dries soil and reduces egg and milk production.

Elza Carl Wyatt Jr. 27, lineman for Columbus and Southern Ohio Electric Co., died after contacting a 7200 volt circuit and falling 25 feet at New Marshfield while wiring changes near Waterloo High School. He died at 8:15 pm in Sheltering Arms Hospital. He served in WWII and is survived by wife Mary Elizabeth and son James Carl. Funeral Thursday at First Christian Church.
UN truce negotiators walked out on Communists in Munsan Korea as Gen. Nam I ters. interpreter spoke. Harrison announced no further business and set return for June 21. UN spokesman Nuckols noted Reds laughed, while Harrison urged they reconsider the UN prisoner exchange proposal.
The Moscow press announced the deaths of two major generals Anison Fyororovich Kiselev aged 51 and Nikolai Leporsky aged 76. Leporsky headed the faculty of hospital therapy at the Soviet Naval Academy since 1952 and was a member of the Soviet Academy of Social Sciences. Kiselev rose from the Red Army in 1920 and died after a long illness, with Red Star noting his leading work in military districts and the War Ministry. Leporsky had studied under I P Pavlov.
The Senate Appropriations Committee approved a bill granting Army engineers 666 million dollars for flood control and navigation projects. It includes 75 thousand dollars for Greenup Kentucky lock and dam planning and 100 thousand dollars for New Cumberland lock and dam planning on the Ohio River near Ohio and West Virginia.

Robert C. North 29 of Murray City died when his 1937 model sedan skidded on loose gravel and overturned over an eight foot embankment on Little Greens Run Road. Coroner Dr. John H. A roll call in the House was ordered today on a bill to raise social security benefits by at least $5 a month for about 4.4 million current beneficiaries. The measure won tentative approval yesterday, but Rep. Ford argued the absences made the vote invalid. Speaker Rayburn then ordered today’s roll call. The bill, sponsored by Rep. Doughton, would cost about 300 million dollars annually.
