L N Miller former Consolidated Motors Corp Lima director was to testify in the trial of Edward T Carney Assistant Chief of the Ohio Securities Division charged with accepting bribes. The defense conceded the $5 000 was a loan not a bribe and Miller had traveled from Lima to Columbia City Ind to obtain it.
London reports Sir James M Barrie the playwright and author is gravely ill with bronchial pneumonia and sinking. Lord Horder physician to the King notes Barrie aged 77 has lost ground since last night and is in less satisfactory condition.
In Stony Brook New York investigators reported arrangements for a meeting between alleged kidnapers and the brother of Mrs Alice McDonnell Parsons. A ransom note demanding 25000 dollars surfaced after her eight day disappearance. Fingerprints of likely female origin were found on the ransom note.
State Auditor Joseph T. Ferguson announced that heads of state departments must file sworn statements confirming full time employee dedication before payrolls are approved. He said time losses from Gov Davey letters are the responsibility of Governor Davey and department heads.

The Navy resumes capital ship construction after an 18 year lapse. Bids for one 35 000 ton battleship to be built under the 1937 program will be opened by Secretary Claude A Swanson. One battleship will be built in a private yard and another in a Navy yard under the Vinson Trammell Act. Bids will also be opened for two submarines by private yards and two more submarines will be built in Navy yards.

Thom as Edward Smith, 19, described as a model youth, was found guilty of first degree murder for the ice pick stabbing of Mary Ellen Babcock in Buffalo. A largely fatherly Supreme Court jury recommended life imprisonment. the judge will sentence next Tuesday. Earlier, his admission of an uncontrollable impulse and a prior ice pick killing of Frances Fitzgerald were part of the case.
Riverside California report states actor W. C. Fields will appeal to the last court in the land from a Superior Court ruling ordering him to pay Dr. Jesse Citron $12,000 for pneumonia treatment. Fields had counter-sued for $25,000 alleging malpractice, which was dismissed.

Lewis that they will not support any boycott or participate in any coal shipment boycott. The strike in the coal fields threatens to halt shipments to strike bound steel companies.
