The New Deal wage and hours measure clears Congress and sits on President Roosevelt’s desk for signature. It sets a 40 hour work week and 40 cent minimum wage for interstate industries with a universal 25 cent first year, rising to 30 cents second year, plus child labor limits and enforcement penalties.
Gallia County officers hunt for Alva Sewards and Millard Davis linked to two armed robberies. They allegedly held up W. A. Keller, 53, at a rural store in Morton Woods Addison Township, stealing groceries and 300 dollars. A 200 dollar reward is offered.
President Roosevelt plans to limit his Ohio trip to Marietta for the Northwest Territory anniversary on July 8. He tentatively delays an inspection tour of the Muskingum conservancy project and is not extending the stay beyond Marietta.

In Columbus a youth about 16 from St Albans West Virginia was killed when struck by a Big Four passenger train. The victim was tentatively identified as Carl Sargent. authorities investigated the accident scene.
Federal alcohol tax agents say they crushed a major illicit liquor network once centered in Lawrence and Gallia Counties Ohio. Thirteen members of the Owens McGuire gang received sentences up to four years in prison. Clyde Robinson 19 was arrested in Biers Virginia while Della Owens remained at large.
Franklin Pierce McCall, 21, pleaded guilty to kidnapping five year old Jimmy Cash in Miami Florida. Judge H F Atkinson ordered a trial without a jury on the kidnapping charge with potential death penalty under the Florida Lindbergh law. If the judge sentences McCall to death Gov. Cone would set the execution date possibly as early as the week of June 27.
The Works Progress Administration will buy 10 million dollars worth of surplus men’s women’s and children’s clothing for relief recipients. Distribution will be through state public welfare departments mirroring the Surplus Commodity Corporation’s operations. Funding may come from existing cash or new relief appropriations in Congress.
In Columbus attorney general Herbert S. Duffy ruled a contract by Athens County with a township trustee between election and taking office was legal. The opinion, sought by County Prosecutor Harold J. Rose, found no violation of a law prohibiting public officials from selling supplies to state units.

In Ashland Pennsylvania two coal miners Peter Shinkowsky 48 and his son Peter Jr 18 were trapped 300 feet underground for 45 hours then rescued by a worker crew. They were taken to Ashland State Hospital in good condition with the son weakened but the father seemingly unscathed.
The TVA investigating committee led by Chairman Vic Donahey announced it will begin its inquiry in Knoxville Tennessee on Monday July 11. All 10 members will attend the session and start by inspecting TVA properties.
