State Hospital Needs Told by Superintendent
Dr. C H Creed superintendent of the Athens State Hospital told Kiwanis members last night that Ohio must provide more state appropriations to care for rising inmate populations. He cited high costs including 327 daily food costs and a 1936 average of 1 633 patients with 385 to 390 employees. Creed warned cuts would force staff reductions if funding does not increase. He noted a shift toward seeing mental illness as treatable and that patients able to work may do so, with work aligned to their interests.
