Dr. F B Dilley Ohio University Registrar estimates the Summer Session enrollment will reach 1400 before close of day. He notes this would surpass the previous record for an eight or nine week term. Early registration shows many new students and transfers.
Cleveland report of a fatal domestic incident where Patadore Bednar 42 shot his wife 33 and then killed himself after a failed attempt to reconcile. The crime happened on a East Side street late Sunday. Bednar’s 12 year old son witnessed the shooting.
The Senate interstate commerce committee approved the Guffey Vinson coal control act by a 9 to 5 vote to stabilize the bituminous coal industry and replace the Supreme Court invalidated law. The bill reenacts price fixing but removes labor provisions, shifting to an excise tax of one and a half percent on all soft coal and a 13 and a half percent interstate levy with rebates for compliant producers.
Callandar Ontario report says Elzire Dionne the quintuplets mother faces possible danger as birth nears. M Legros and Oliva Dionne fear for her life while Dr. Ranney notes risk from publicity and crowding though no imminent threat is seen.

Columbus U P reports outdoor graduation exercises were conducted today for 1,400 Ohio State University graduates in a ceremony held at the campus.
Workers blocked entrances of the Babcock and Wilcox Co at Barberton as a federal union strike pressed for higher wages. The plant employs 2300 workers and followed a quick settlement at Seiberling Rubber Co in Barberton where production continued after a six hour stoppage.
In a special message to the legislature Governor Martin L. Davey recommends repealing the sales tax on food for home consumption starting Sept. 1. He says the tax yields far more than original estimates and would cause about a four million dollar revenue loss for the last third of the year, offset by excess revenue. He notes schools and local governments benefited and urges a special committee study for January.

Dr Byron Danford of Athens pleads not guilty to issuing fraudulent narcotic prescriptions. He remains on $1000 bond and is to be heard June 24 before Federal Judge Mel G Underwood in Columbus. The judge also scheduled next Monday for liquor charge cases including several from New Straitsville, with guilty defendants to be sentenced later today.
An investigation opened today into the Bear Run Inn fire that leveled the night club. Russell Kelly, 30, of McLaney, in charge at the time, suffered serious burns. Loss was estimated in the several thousand dollar range.
About 150000 Ohio World War veterans await bonus bonds totaling at least 60000000 with many to cash immediately. Bonds are distributed by registered mail from the Cleveland Federal Reserve Bank with post offices offering quick cashing and optional checks from Cleveland or Cincinnati after ID. Authorities warn against scams as G men assist at the National Military Home in Dayton and liquor agents guard residents there.
Coast Guard reports an amphibian plane based at St. Petersburg plummeted into Tampa Bay during a Florida coast storm. Lieut. C. M. Perrott, radioman Walter Morriss, and Machinist's Mate William D. Eubanks were aboard. wreckage sighted after search began. Contact lost at 7:20 a.m., crash presumed lethal for all aboard.
Three people died and another was severely injured in an early morning auto-bus collision at Telegraph Road intersection near Monroe Michigan. The deceased were Henry Land 40 of Temperance Simon La Plante 55 of Erie Township and Ed Karan 55 of Temperance.
Washington clarifies the veterans bonus payment rules. The rate is one dollar per day served in the U S military and 1 25 per day overseas, with no pay for the first 60 days. Payments use checks and $50 bonds. bonds cannot be cashed at banks, only at select post offices or via the treasurer, and veterans may cash any number of bonds while keeping others as cash value or nest egg.
The screen star W C Fields, famed for his comedy, is reported seriously ill with pneumonia in a Riverside California community hospital. Physicians say he has been in a run down condition recently and is under treatment.
Cleveland National Broadcasting Co engineer C. P. Tyler, in town for the Republican National Convention, drowned Sunday night when he fell from the Dolphin, a 33 foot cruiser three miles off Vermilion. He was with a party returning from Sandusky, aboard the vessel owned and piloted by Clarence Davis of Cleveland.
Wheat futures jumped 3 1 4 to 4 cents a bushel as traders reacted to numerous reports of dry weather in the Northwest spring wheat belt. Minnesota field reports credit the weather shift to persistently dry conditions raising price expectations for spring wheat.

He cited a Cleveland Trust Co bulletin showing yearly patterns with an early rise, a dip from February to July, then a late year advance. A note threatening the life of Miss Elizabeth Clay, a direct descendant of Henry Clay and niece of Frederick A. Wallis, chairman of the Kentucky Welfare Department, was received in Paris Kentucky. Police said the note mailed from Lexington was turned over to the FBI in Louisville. Contents were not disclosed and both Miss Clay and Wallis declined comment.

Miami University today graduated 437 students, the largest class in its 110 year history. President A H Upham awarded diplomas, with Raymond J L Buell of New York and Herman G James of Ohio University among honorary degree recipients. Gilbert K Chesterton, noted English essayist, will be buried Wednesday at St Theresa’s Church in Beaconsfield following his death Sunday at 62.
