St Louis prepares a three day Lindbergh celebration honoring Col Charles A Lindbergh. Mayor Victor Miller urges a reception equal to national standards as the famed flyer is due to land Friday at 4 pm at Lambert Field. Large crowds, police and military protection planned to clear the landing area.
Lindbergh plans four appearances from noon to midnight in New York as he weighs flying the Spirit of St. Louis to Washington and back. He will attend a boxing benefit at the polo grounds and visit Flo Ziegfeld's show house, see Rio Rita, and join a Roxy movie event for mothers of missing aviators Nungesser and Coli. A New York dinner at the Commodore honors him with remarks on aviation.
Dr. C L Jones of Athens telephoned the Messenger to report Ralph P Jennings of the Athens Messenger is in a Columbus hospital after a severe operation. Jennings is very weak but has no fever and is in good spirits with his family by his side.
Mrs. Evangeline Lodge Lindbergh mother of Charles A. Lindbergh will depart New York tonight for St. Louis. She will travel on a special section of The Spirit of St. Louis over the Pennsylvania railroad.
More than 700 radio broadcasting stations switched to new wave lengths at 3 am with the federal radio commission warning that any deviation will face prosecution. The commission, now acting as police and judge, has issued its final assignments amid reports of resistance and potential challenges to the plan.
Rapid City South Dakota June 15 Between 25 000 and 50 000 persons are expected tonight to greet the Coolidges as they arrive in the Black Hills of South Dakota for an official visit. The crowd size estimate reflects widespread public interest and anticipated ceremonies during the stop in Rapid City and surrounding areas.
President Coolidge will arrive at a South Dakota station around 5 p.m. Mountain Time where cowboys and Indians in full dress will greet him. National guardsmen will guard the station and road to the state game lodge, with a guard of honor by cow boys at Hermosa.
Berlin reports Dr. Hugo Eckener the Los Angeles pilot plans a 1928 around the world dirigible flight in a 17-123 under construction at Friedrichshafen. He estimates the voyage at under 300 hours and will first test over the Atlantic, east and west.
Robert Jones, now head of public relations at Hocking Power Company, shared twenty five years as a managing editor with Scripps Howard papers and the Columbus Citizen. He described fascinations and troubles of journalism, suppression attempts, and editor tactics to overcome them. He traced a story from origin to final publication.
POMEROY June 15 The Meigs County treasurer Jake Hartenbach is described as wading creeks chasing snapping turtles. He admits keeping eighteen turtles fattening in slop barrels, allegedly to host a free Fourth of July turtle soup dinner for county kin.
The Norwegian steamer Proteus, tow of the U.S. Shipping Board vessel Crosskeys, was brought to Brisbane after becoming disabled in mid sea. It battled heavy seas for three days while en route to Kembla near Melbourne.
John L. Clifton of Columbus a Democrat and professor of education at Ohio State University will be appointed state director of education by Governor Sic Donahey to replace Fernon M. Riegel, according to official sources.
Ohio union miners continue deliberations over the industry suspension on June 15. Oril Daugherty, Hocking district president, says only a small percentage want to return to work at lower wages. Lee Hall calls the meeting routine. A mass gathering at Brush Fork Junction near Nelsonville is planned Friday to draft wage scales for submission to operators.

Commander Richard Byrd will depart for Paris in the tri motor Fokker America soon after Friday once weather permits. The plane needs only fuel and provisions, and Byrd will not disclose his plans before leaving to receive an honorary degree at the Virginia Military Institute. Bert Costa and Lieut Ne ville, U S N, will accompany Byrd in the wireless equipped plane.
POMEROY June 15. The crackdown on illicit liquor in Meigs county tightens as three more accused offenders are jailed. Sheriff Willock and Deputy Welker transport four handcuffed suspects to Columbus for federal processing. The four named are Arch Qualls, Ba Qualls, Elmer Qualls, and Buck Still, described as longtime moonshine operators. Prosecutor Dana Peoples coordinated the transfer of cases.
William A. Ackerman of Mt. Vernon opened the Ohio Bankers Association annual convention in Cedar Point with a call for reform of state tax laws to keep Ohio industrially strong. More than 1,000 bankers from across the state attend the three day gathering. Ackerman labeled the current taxation system antiquated and unfair and urged sharp changes to spur development.
Louis Mazer, implicated in the murder of Canton Daily News publisher Don R. Mellett last July, was to begin a five to twenty year term at Gain Penitentiary today. He left Canton with Sheriff Ed Gibson and three deputies, aiming to reach Columbus by 11:30 a.m.
In Columbus on June 15 the State Supreme Court overruled Warden P E Thomas and granted Canton attorney E L Mills permission for a private interview with life prisoner Pat McDermott, convict in the murder of Don R Mellett at the Ohio penitentiary.
Paris officials of Levasseur, builders of the White Bird, questioned reports of flares in Northern Quebec possibly from missing French fliers Charles Nungesser and Francois Coli. Coli had refused rockets before departure, while Madame Nungesser appeals for news as her son is missing over five weeks.
John B. Hammer 40 of Chillicothe was struck and killed by a west bound Baltimore and Ohio freight train on the Grosvenor bridge while painting with six men under foreman H A Kreager. Coroner L F Jones took the body to a local undertaker. Hammer leaves a wife and three children. relatives to be notified in Chillicothe.
Jed Skinner known as Jed was arraigned in Common Pleas court on charges after officers found a copper still coil mash and whisky at his Glouster home. He pleaded not guilty and was jailed in Athens County for a $300 bond. The warrant came from Trimble Mayor A. E Johnson.
Mrs Clarence D. Chamberlin and Mrs Charles A. Levine wives of the Bellanca Columbia pilots arrived today aboard the S S Berlin en route to Bremen to join their husbands after the nonstop distance flight record flight.

Logan reports Jethro Barber of Ward township faces manslaughter affidavit after Alexander Sneddon 35 Murray City died from a fractured skull from a wreck early Monday on West Hunter street. Sneddon was taken to Cherrington hospital unconscious and died. Barber jailed to await arraignment before Magistrate J. P. Miller. Prosecutor Henderson says April term grand jury will reconvene next Wednesday.
Four persons were known drowned and a tourist family of five was missing after a dam burst on Wise River, 34 miles southwest of Butte. The flood swept the camping ground 11 miles above town, and the five could not be identified.
