Gallia Hospital reports Floyd Delashmutt Athens County's first agriculture agent nearly 50 years ago is now a patient at Holzer Hospital in Gallipolis Ohio.
State Highway Patrol reports two deer killed by cars on U S Route 50. A 5 am Friday collision 2.5 miles west of Route 7 involved Carroll Evans, 43, Huntington. Another deer struck Thursday night near the Athens Washington County line by Otis D Collins, 45, Vincent Route 1.
Edith Stover Gifford Coxsee and Alfred Carr were admitted to Sheltering Arms Hospital in Athens. Ottie McComas was dismissed.
A $14,000 grant from the U S Office of Education awarded to Ohio University will strengthen undergraduate and graduate special education programs. Dr. Albert H Shuster says the funds will aid needs assessment for services for the mentally retarded. Dr Daniel L Peterson wrote the proposal. The Ohio Board of Regents recently approved master’s degrees in special education. Richland Fire Brigade answered a 2 30 p m call to Lowel Fair residence. circuit overheating caused no fire or damage.
Representatives and volunteers aiding Athens County during last month’s Hocking River floods were honored by the local Red Cross chapter. Area Disaster Director Robert Vessey outlined relief effort, noting 213 families aided and $49,617 spent on furnishings, with $9,500 for food and clothing and $4,700 for repairs. The funds come as a grant from the American people through the Red Cross. Page 14 continued.
