The House approved a 1940 relief supply bill of 1.7166 billion dollars, 45.89 million less than FDR asked. Route 50 Improvement Work Set to Start June 26
The two mile section of U S Route 50 in Canaan Township will begin work June 26 under a project awarded to Miller and Orndoff of Waterford. The $127 950 53 bid covers 2149 miles of improvement with a completion deadline of May 31 1940. The plan relocates part of the route through Strouds Run to Canaanville and calls for reinforced concrete paving.

Farmer Who Preached Own Funeral Passes Away in Indiana
Wade Millman a 91 year old Coatesville farmer and wealthy landowner died in a Indianapolis hospital. Two years earlier he preached his own funeral sermon before neighbors and curiosity seekers. He planned burial on May 16 1937 in a Canaan churchyard under a Swiss imported tombstone, with an oak casket from his own trees and last rites on his farm.
