Canonization Hope Revived for Kateri Tekakwitha
Revival of a second miracle attributed to Kateri Tekakwitha renews efforts toward her beatification and potential canonization as the first American born saint. Tekakwitha died April 17 1680 at age 24 after fasting and penance in a chapel near Montreal built by the Jesuits. The Vatican Congregation of Rites noted renewed evidence supports her cause as a step toward sainthood.
