Lefever Explains Benders Proposal in Nelsonville
Senator Lefever of Glouster explains the Bender amendment to the state constitution before the Nelsonville Chamber, outlining that rural counties would lose individual House representation and share an assemblyman, with apportionment based on population and census every ten years, a plan critics say favors urban centers and could harm rural roads and schools. He notes uncertainty about gathering signatures and warns the measure could shift political power away from rural areas. A separate motion directs a resolution to Governor Cooper urging state coal purchases for institutions, with local chambers urged to back road improvements from Nelsonville to New Marshfield via Glen Ebon and to coordinate with officials.
