Far mer Lloyd Hoffman and a companion watched a jet plunge 100 feet from them west of Laurelville in Pickaway County. The F101 fighter crash killed Capt. James F. Nolan Jr. 29 and Capt. Richard R. Trainer 25, both of Columbus with the 87th Fighter Squadron at Lockbourne AFB. Nolan leaves a widow and four children. Trainer leaves a widow and two children. Air Force investigators began determining the crash cause.
