County plans lighted fairgrounds sports field at Athens
A county Recreational Committee led by John Dowler will build a lighted baseball field at the fairgrounds center with a $5000 fund. Ohio University officials, fair board members, and electric firm reps back phased development toward a countywide sports complex, aiming for completion by fall with help from surplus school lights and donated labor.

Athens K T Crossen Post of the American Legion earned a plaque for exceeding its 485 member quota with more than 500 members. Commander James M. Vercoe received the award as Athens delegates and local Legionnaires W R Shaffer Wade Poffenbarger Virgil Frost Nolan H Mace and Ben L Williams attended the district event. Williams was elected district second vice commander and C J Ailstock named an honorary to the national convention. The district fall conference was voted to be held in Athens.
