Washington reports officials expect a deal on the wage and hour bill and the recovery appropriation as conferees meet for a second session. A tentative wage scale would set no fixed time limits with a moving 44 42 40 hour plan and industry boards.
Senate amends the 375 million flood control bill to reimburse Muskingum Conservancy District assessments up to 4.5 million. The measure would remit 70 percent of assessments to property owners, with 4.5 million as the cap. The conference committee must act before final enactment.
A proposed law to empower the President to dissolve all semi military organizations of fascist or communist nature linked to foreign governments will be introduced in the next Congress. It would draw on findings from a special House committee set to probe un American activities and foreign propaganda in the United States this summer.
Police fear 19 month old Carmella La Jeunesse has been kidnapped after she vanished from her Nelson home. A bloodstained handkerchief found on a hillside spurred a search involving about 200 miners and local police.

In Lockport New York Jules Legare husband of Anna Legare and Ella Gillian sister of Anna Legare were jailed as material witnesses in the Betty Jane Hobbs abduction case. Betty Jane was found nine days after disappearing. Chief Hoefer said Gillian accompanied officers to Lockport after Ohio questioning.
President Roosevelt announced plans for a cross country trip starting July 7 from Marietta Ohio to celebrate Northwest Territory founding then on to Covington Kentucky and Tennessee. He will travel west to Oklahoma and Texas visiting Ft Worth Wichita Falls Amarillo and later Colorado before boarding a navy cruiser for an ocean voyage to the equator after a Yosemite visit.
Firemen dragged the Ohio River at Portsmouth to recover three drowned girls from a capsized rowboat carrying eight children. Victims were Gladys Rudd nine Evelyn Frey fourteen and May Webb nine. A boy swam ashore for help and Charles Webb thirty five brother of May helped reunite the survivors.

Three Democratic senators opposing President Roosevelt’s judiciary reorganization face political reprisals. Millard E. Tydings of Maryland Ellison D. Smith of South Carolina and Walter F. Franklin P. McCall, 21, named the sole prisoner as 62 FBI agents withdraw from Miami inquiry into the Jimmy Cash case. He confessed to writing ransom notes and handling the money but denied abducting or killing the boy. Authorities suggested others may be involved as the investigation winds down. The victim’s funeral was planned. McCall earlier attended Jasper High School where he played football and read detective stories.
The U S Chamber of Commerce urged that states retain control of water resources for flood control projects. It opposed amendments pushing power development to the federal government, noting the bill would let states own and operate flood control structures while power rights would be centralized.
