J W T Mason argues Von Hindenburg repeats the 1914 plan in the Compeigne-Noyon sector as Americans and Allies push back in other areas. He compares 1914 strategy with Foch's current defensive deployment and notes Allied reserves south of Compeigne.
The habeas corpus matter involving four month old Ofrence Paul Garlinger was dismissed after a partial Friday hearing. Judge Phillips approved an agreement that the mother, Mrs. Freda Garlinger, would keep the child and all legal actions would be withdrawn by both sides, with the fathers' family relinquishing custody.
Thor Olson faces Paul Bowser of Newark in a toe-hold barred bout at the Santoy company theatre. Olson seeks revenge after Bowser used the hold to defeat him weeks ago. Proceeds aid Sanmtoy miners as Olson departs for Harvard Boon for study and training work.
The Order of Caranthe will host an open air social on Monday evening June 10 at No 10 hill lawn near Mr William Jewitt's home in Hocking Ohio. Public invited with band music.
Coolville Ohio June 10 The Troy township Subcouncil of the Athens County War Relief Association orders non subscribers to pledge to the War Chest by July 4 1918. No canvass will be made but residents must see their local Sub-Councilman if unpaid or underpaid. Authority cited is the Troy Township Sub Council. It is now up to you.
In Baker Oregon a new star in Aquilla was reported from the Washington Naval Observatory. Dr. George Y. Peters and Prof. W M Conrad observed it at 1 20 am during eclipse plate development, seen between Altaire and Vega. It is visible east after 9 pm.
Paris reports a German drive between Montdidier and Noyon slowed by French resistance. The French say Allied forces, including American troops, advanced northwest of Chateau Thierry, taking 250 prisoners and thirty machine guns. Casualties and details follow from the day’s briefing.
June 10 dispatch reports American forces in France repelling two German attacks west of Chateau-Thierry at Bouresches and Hill 204. They advanced to the edge of the wood near Vaux and touched outskirts of Chateau-Thierry before withdrawing to their positions. Belleau Wood remained under Marine defense as shells continued. Picardy front near Montdidier faced German bombardment and American counter bombardment.
The War Department lists 74 American casualties in France on June 1. Thirteen killed in action, five dead from wounds, one from disease, one from airplane accident, one dead from accident and other causes, forty six wounded severely and seven wounded. Private Mac Winger of Marysville Ohio died of wounds, and Private William McAllister of Marysville was severely wounded. The Marysville men are believed part of the Rainbow Division.
Expect mainly fair and moderately warm conditions through the week with showers possible on Thursday. The forecast notes improving weather aside from a chance of showers midweek.

Colonel Charles Young U S A the only living colored West Point graduate arrived in Athens yesterday en route to Washington D C. He led Ohio colored troops in the Spanish American war and later served in the Philippines Liberia Haiti and Mexico. He attended Mt Zion Baptist Church with Rev C T Isom and spoke informally. He stayed as the guest of Ed C Berry.
Athens county announces calls for men with mechanical training. Eighteen are notified. four go to the University of Cincinnati on June 15, including Alfred Headley Carpenter and others. Fourteen report to Cincinnati Public Schools. five colored men depart June 19 for Camp Sherman. Two potential substitutes are Chester Jones and Ezra B. Dalton.
John Myers, clerk of the Athens county election board, will be in Athens all day Thursday, June 13, to receive primary petitions and handle election business. He will be in the election board office in the basement of the courthouse.
George Frederick a foreigner was hit by a car said to be driven by Matt Tolliver Friday evening near the Company store in Circle Hill He suffered multiple injuries including broken legs a crushed hip and a head wound He was taken to Logan hospital and his condition improved with recovery progress reported as the wife visited him.
Washington reports General Pershing Publicizes a war department order urging American expeditionary forces to write home often. He argues steady letters relieve distress of relatives, noting mothers and fathers suffer if they do not hear from sons in France.
J A Davis a deserter from Company EB 150th Infantry was arrested Friday at Hamley Run by Deputy Parker and Officer Bolin. His unit was formerly the 2nd West Virginia Infantry. The sheriff wired Davis's captain for instructions and holds him at the county jail.
Henry Irving Dodge calls for a nationwide drive to suppress The Yellow Dog by forming Boy Detectives of America in every municipality. He argues the lie filled attacks harm home morale worse than the German army and urges mayors and youth leaders to organize meetings and issue official membership cards to dozens of boys who will root out dissent.
Camp Lee Virginia June 8 The last units of the Ohio national guard forming the Thirty seventh division arrived and are quartered in cantonment barracks. Units in camp include the 145th 146th 147th and 148th infantry the 134th 185th and 136th gun battalions the 112th company and train headquarters and signals. The division's strength buildup began on arrival with a depot brigade adding men. Ohio guardsmen praised as seasoned campaigners and lively camp residents. General Farnsworth cited Governor Cox denying reports of camp holds. Conduct of Ohio troops described as very good.
Three people died and nine were injured when two cars collided on National Road near Saint Clairsville Ohio Sunday evening. The deceased were William Jr, Mrs W B and Miss Lillian Paden. Injured include Mrs Marion En, Joseph, John, Helen and Paden, Mrs Martha Marker, and others from Martins Ferry and Bellaire. All injured are expected to survive.
